Respite Care

If you are caring for someone with a disability, dementia, difficult behaviour or a palliative condition, it is important that you look after yourself, too.

Respite care is often planned in advance. For instance, if a carer is planning a trip or has other commitments for a period of time. However, it is also available in emergencies or unexpected situations.

At Kooweerup Regional Health Service, we have 5 respite beds:

2 beds available for residential respite. Residential respite is available for up to 63 days in a financial year. It is possible to extend this by 21 days at a time, with further approval from your aged care assessor via My Aged Care on: 1800 200 422.

3 beds available for cottage respite (previously known as the National Respite for Carer’s Program). Through this program, you can take a much-needed break for a period of up to 2 weeks from your role as carer – for the benefit of both yourself and the person you care for.

Our respite clients are cared for by fully qualified staff, and are treated with utmost dignity and respect during their stay with us.
